Welcome to Sunway University, one of Malaysia’s leading private universities which is a strictly not-for-profit institution and dedicated to quality education, supporting enterprise, and undertaking research focused on key global problems. The University is based in Sunway City, a thriving green resort city built on reclaimed former tin-mining land, on the western side of Kuala Lumpur in the heart of the Klang Valley. The University is relatively young by global standards, but is already ranked within the top 2% of universities in the world (QS World University Rankings), and in the top 1.5% of universities in Asia, as well as being ranked within the top 150 universities in the world under 50 years old.
Our state-of-the-art modern campus is connected to a wide range of social and community amenities by safe walkways at tree top level (the “canopy walk”) giving a unique sustainable study, work and social environment for our students and staff on campus and around Sunway City. Sunway City is a prime example of the new global movement of sustainable “fifteen minute cities” with hyper-connectivity and all amenities accessible within 15 minutes by walking. Close by the campus and connected via the canopy walkway we have the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park, the Sunway Pyramid Mall (one of the largest in the country and the region), and the Sunway Medical Centre, one of the largest and best equipped private hospitals in Southeast Asia giving world class medical care, as well as much more.
The University has a 5-star “excellent” rating by the Malaysian government (in the latest Setara assessment exercise), and is one of just eleven universities in Malaysia to be awarded the special “Premier Digital Technology University” status. We have developed close collaborations with many leading international universities including Harvard University and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Some professors from the latter hold distinguished visiting appointments giving occasional lectures to our University and the wider Sunway City community through our Jeffrey Cheah Distinguished Speakers series of public lectures. These are named after the founder of Sunway City and of the University, Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah, who is also the chairman of Sunway Group, one of Malaysia’s leading industrial conglomerates and developer of Sunway City. We have a very close relationship with Lancaster University in the UK, enabling our students on many programmes to also qualify for Lancaster degrees.
So welcome to a globally connected, forward looking university, dedicated to sustainability, and located in arguably one of the most exciting campus destinations on the planet in the warm heart of tropical sunny Malaysia.
We are located at Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya, Selangor.
In Sunway University, we have 3 intakes for the year:-
Students are advised to familiarise themselves on how to consult with their lecturers, outside the class hours, whether face-to-face, or online. This is usually communicated through the individual subjects’ eLearn page, course outlines and/or other learning platforms that the lecturers use. Peer learning support is available for selected subjects through the Peer Assisted Learning Programme.
What is most important is that if you feel that you are facing academic challenge and need help, you should let your lecturer know, so that the appropriate assistance can be given to you.
English is the medium of instruction in the University and widely spoken in Malaysia. However, you will be required to learn our national language Bahasa Malaysia (Malay language), as part of your study programme, in a subject called Bahasa Kebangsaan (National Language) . Aside from Malay and English, Chinese dialects (such as Mandarin, Hakka and Hokkien), and Indian dialects (such as Tamil, Telugu and Malayalee) are also spoken in the country.
Yes, the University ensures that all food vendors on the campus provide Halal food.
We have 3 accommodations offered for our students:-
These accommodations are closed to our campus and students are able to reach our campus within a walking distance.
Yes, we provide financial support and sponsorship to our new intake and existing students with conditions.
