Course Overview
This program provides you with the opportunity to specialise in a chosen field of hospitality and tourism research. You will understand, study and demonstrate your novelty in hospitality and tourism research and contribution to this knowledge through your dissertation. This is the best way for you to demonstrate your research passion, discover new knowledge, contribute to hospitality and tourism knowledge and being recognized for your contribution through attainment of a doctoral degree. You will develop your research skills through two taught modules, i.e. research methods and quantitative or qualitative methods.

A flexible framework is provided enabling you to pursue your research passion working closely with your supervisors, academic experts, industry practitioners, government agency(s) from local and international fields in the following areas:

  • Hospitality and Hotel Management
  • Tourism Management
  • Tourism Economics and Finance
  • Leisure and Events Management
  • Hospitality and Tourism Technology Management

Experienced supervision team
You will be supervised by active and experienced supervisors in UOW Malaysia KDU, gain access with guidance from potential co-supervisors, interact with supervisors from different disciplines to enhance your learning opportunities and allow you to progress in diverse and interdisciplinary research.

Culture of Excellence in Research
We are committed in providing extensive training and support to all postgraduate candidates. You will learn research methodology and analysis methods through core modules. Candidates will also receive training sessions; including inventive problem solving approaches, project management, scholarship and research funding application, English writing, communication skills and information research and retrieval. A series of research seminars, workshops and talks will be available, to enhance and stimulate a research culture in UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College.

Entry Requirements

Academic Qualification

  • Master’s Degree: Master’s Degree or equivalent, as accepted by the Senate.

English Requirement

  • Local Student: MUET Band 2; or Band 5 in IELTS; or a min score of 57 (IBT) or 180 (CBT) in TOEFL; or Recognised Master (conducted in English); or UOW Malaysia KDU English Entrance Test (67)
  • International Student: MUET Band 4; or Band 6 in IELTS; or a min score of 58 (IBT) or 488 (PBT) in TOEFL; or Cambridge English CAE (169) & CPE (180); or PTE Academic (54)
  • *If English language requirements are not fulfilled, additional English module(s) may be taken at UOW Malaysia KDU.
